Virgin Mobile Academy – Richard Branson at Warsaw University
Today was one of those days when you could sit face to face with a world-class entrepreneur, Richard Branson at the UW on Krakowskie Przedmiescie. He was 30 minutes late, but that is completely understandable when one flies in the morning from Moscow to spend a couple of hours in Warsaw and then head on to Mumbai, Egypt etc etc ..
Most of the questions related to how RB does business, whether he relies on instinct, whether he believes in CSR and how he came up with the idea to take people into space through his venture VirginGalactic. He answered that intuition is more important than analysis, however the reason that Virgin Mobile only comes to Poland now is due to the fact that market studies show that Polish people were “picky” and want to know what they pay for. This is why Virgin Mobile Polska came up with a pay as you go system which piggybacks on the existing telecom infrastructure in Poland.
Together with Lukasz Wejchert, Branson talked about the need to create an entrepreneurial culture locally and globally and the many ways in which new businesses can engage in making the world a better place. “Make sure you do something you are truly passionate about, because if you’re going to spend 18 hours a day working on something, it may as well be fun” was the advice he gave to the young aspiring entrepreneurs who were cast during the show.
Virgin Mobile Academy is an entrepreneurial project of the Virgin group. You can send your business idea by 31.01.2013 and if you convince the jury of its value, you will get your first investment of 100.000 PLN in your new venture. Go to www.virginacademy.pl to read more.
